Came here for lunch with a colleague of mine, S, as a welcome back and to catch up on the last 4 months! SeLAh is an ancient Hebrew term meaning ‘to pause’ and SeLAh have created a relaxing culinary oasis where one can enjoy a mix of Modern Australian, Asian and European. Run by Gavin Foster (head chef), this stylish relaxed dining can be found in the heart of the city.

They currently have a lunch special on – 2 courses for $45 and you can either get an entrée with a main, a main and dessert, or entrée and dessert or whatever. At first I thought I would just get one course but after perusing their menu, I couldn’t resist but get the two course special.

We both started with the sticky pork belly with master stock, shitake, apple and cucumber salad and OH MY GAWD!!!!!! The pork was unbelievably tender and skin crispy. It was sweet but yet light and the shitake, apple and cucumber salad was a great compliment. The serving was just ‘right’, anymore and it could get sickly.

For the main, I had the zucchini flowers with pumpkin croquettes with Sri Lankan spiced lentil and soft eggplant.

The zucchini flowers were lightly battered with ricotta cheese inside, the pumpkin croquettes was absolutely delicious. I am not usually a huge fan of lentils but the mixture of it all was simply outstanding.

S had the steak – fillet of beef with prawn ravioli, potato, horseradish crème, tomato and tarragon jus.

He asked for medium rare and it was cooked perfection! The horseradish crème with mashed potatoes was just to die for – the combination just simply wonderful!! I am quite certain S enjoyed his meal – there was absolutely nothing left! Not even tarragon jus!

Had a great catch up with S. I was unbelievably full, and was extremely happy! I had to back it up that night as I was catching up with two of my dearest friends for dinner… Not sure how, but I knew that I would find a way!

Whether it’s for business lunches or pre-theater dining or simply enjoying a complete dining experience, Selah is the perfect city venue.
