K Town Bar and Grill, Kennedy Town, Hong Kong

K Town Bar and Grill is a newish restaurant which is part of the Castelo Concepts, serving diners a collection of weekend brunch option and other dishes as well as week day set lunches. Kennedy Town is not a place I go very often, but we wanted to try somewhere new and suggested this place.

The restaurant was bigger than I thought, and it was quite busy on the weekend, thankfully we made a reservation. The menu was vast ranging from salads, burgers, tacos, and many more. We were here with ‘The Mother’s’ family. I couldn’t go past the crispy skin rotisserie chicken – herb and garlic rubbed, slowly roasted and basted, served with veggies and rich chicken gravy, (HKD95 half, HKD165 whole). It was a relatively large serving – enough for both Dragon and I. The chicken was tender and the rich gravy sauce was RICH! Too rich for my liking.

‘The Mother’ couldn’t go past the pork belly – snap crackling pork belly, apple confit, sweet potato mash, baby carrots and rich pork gravy (HKD135). The crackle was fantastic, however, the pork could be more tender I thought. Shame as the crackle was gooooddddd.

Both the FiL and MiL had salad, I didn’t take a photo of their dish but from memory they had the Mr “Percival” salad – salmon sashimi, chunky avo pieces, baby cress, crispy rice pops and wasabi soy dressing (HKD145) and Thai beef salad – fresh lettuce, cherry tomatoes, green papaya, bean sprouts, coriander and mint and our own thai dressing and toasted peanuts (HKD125) – They both said that it was very tasty.

Service was friendly and polite. The restaurant is very child friendly during the weekend. I am not sure what it is like at night but definitely good during the day. Will definitely be back to try their other dishes.

Piccolo Pizzeria Bar, Kennedy Town, Hong Kong

Piccolo Pizzeria and Bar can be found on Kennedy Town on Davis Street. We have walked past this place many times and wondered so thought we would give it ago one day. It was after Dragon’s swimming lesson and our local lunch spot has been Kennedy Town and we always seem to go to Boulangerie which I don’t mind as I adore their quiche but wanted something different.

The place was relatively empty when we rocked up at about 2pm, there were 3 tables and all were eating pizza. Unfortunately ‘The Mother’ was suffering from a slight stomach bug so didn’t want to eat anything too heavy and that meant no pizza!

He ordered soup – minestrone soup – it didn’t look very appetizing to me. He said it was ‘ok’ but then again, with a stomach bug, everything tastes ok.

I couldn’t go past the porcini mushroom served with chicken and bacon.. oh my.. the porcini mushroom was deep fried and HUGE!! Unfortunately the batter was a little thick and I ended up scraping it off. The chicken and bacon was a wonderful complement though.

The pizza did look good though – will definitely have to try it next time. Service was a little slow at times, my meal took a good 40 minutes to come!

Boulangerie Bistronomique, Kennedy Town, Hong Kong

Ever since Dragon started swimming lessons at the West Island School, ‘The Mother’ and I have started eating around Kennedy Town. Now, Kennedy Town is not an area I know well, in fact, I have never been there except to visit a friend. We stumbled across this cafe,Boulangerie as we were looking for somewhere to eat. I was staving but more importantly, Dragon was starving and sleepy after her strenuous 45 minutes swimming lesson. ‘The Mother’ suggested we eat at Boulangerie, a new-ish French patisserie opened by David Lai, who also opened Bistronomique (a place I have been dying to go also) just around the corner. Boulangerie reminds me a little like Paris but not quite, this is still Hong Kong after all but they make delicious French pastries, cakes, baguettes and quiche!

I knew exactly what I wanted, quiche Lorraine – it certainly has been a very long time since I had some. The quiche was perfectly cooked, creamy, egg-y and was absolutely delicious and the rocket was a wonderful complement.

‘The Mother’ couldn’t go past the banh mi baguette which came with soup and chips. It is not the best photo of the baguette as ‘The Mother’ was too hungry and I was too slow! The bread was slightly toasted which I thought was a little weird, but ‘The Mother’ seemed to have enjoyed it.

The cream of mushroom soup wasn’t too bad.

The chips were not what we expected – we were both hoping for hot chips, but it was actually potato chips – such disappointment.

I came back a week later and had the tuna sandwich which wasn’t too bad. I love the fresh bread, and this time they had pumpkin soup which was delicious. Unfortunately I was too hungry and forgot to take photos!

The sweets – the croissants aren’t too bad, not as good as Paris. They had choc-chip cookie which was chewy just the way I liked it!

Overall it wasn’t too bad, however, service was a bit of a hit and miss. If I wasn’t in the area I probably wouldn’t go back, as it is a tad far. But food wasn’t too bad.
